![View from a train window as A3 Pacific no 4472 <I>Flying Scotsman</I> heads north towards Perth on the Kinross-shire line with the Queen's College Railway and Transport Society's <I>Flying Scotsman Rail Tour</I> on 16 May 1964. ![Looking north to Kelty station, junctions and marshalling yards in 1989. Unfortunately the trackbed has been heavily landscaped and you'll need your imagination. A cutting here ran from the foreground off to the left with the station by the distant buildings to the left. The station building, somewhat confusingly, survives at Loch Leven having been moved [see image 17062]. Behind the camera was the junction between the 'new' line from Cowdenbeath [2nd] and Lumphinnans. ![View south at Loch Leven with sleepers still at the site of the shed to the left and, further left, the approach to the goods yard. Briefly, in 1860, this was the Kinross terminus of the line from Lumphinnans before the Fife and Kinross was extended south from Hopefield and this line extended north to meet it at a new through station (Kinross [3rd], renamed Loch Leven in 1871 and closed in 1921). The Hopefield station became Kinross Junction station on the opening of the Devon Valley line, was rebuilt on the opening of the Forth Bridge and survived until 1970.<br><br>

The North British provided a Loch Leven curlers' platform south of here.<br><br>

![Bridge over South Queich between The old and new Kinross stations. When the Devon Valley Railway reached Kinross it joined the extended line from Kinross(old) to Ladybank now called The Fife and Kinross-shire Railway at a station called Hopefield. That name was changed to Kinross Junction whilst the old Kinross station in distance, was re-named Loch Leven. ![Kinross, Loch Leven Pier(west view). This building was moved stone by stone from the old NBR goods station at Kelty (closed 1970). ![This rather impressive artwork exists close to the trackbed just south of Loch Leven station. So far so good. Unfortunately it is closest to the site of the Kinross-shire Railway's short lived Kinross terminus and although the date range is correct for the line east from Mawcarse the route through Kinross closed in 1970.<br><br>[Ewan Crawford 12/01/2018]](/images/62000/62539.jpg "Kinross [2nd]")
