![McIntosh 2P no 55185 stands at Keith shed in March 1959. The locomotive was withdrawn by BR in July 1961 following official closure of the shed to steam the previous month. 61C continued to be used as a diesel depot until the mid 1970s. I recall one of the buildings on the left carrying a sandwich board on a 4th floor balcony saying LEARN TO DANCE HERE. ![A GNSR axlebox cover - part of a set that remained at the Longmorn distillery after BR closed the line from Elgin in the 1960s. The Distillery retained a rail system to transport materials around the site until late 1979, when the track, locomotives and wagons were gifted to the Strathspey Railway. <br>

![Dyce distant signal on the Fraserburgh branch, apparently the last surviving GNSR signal post. Over 2 weekends members of the GNSRA and Aberdeen University Railway Society carefully dismantled it with the intention of displaying it at Alford transport museum. ![SRPS Railtour returning from Dufftown waits on the mainline for the service train to pass it on the loop below Dyce Signal Box. The reason for this unusual move may have been that the railtour train was too long for the loop so it had to wait on the mainline. The track of the Buchan Line is visible to the left of and behind the box; this line is another candidate for reopening in the 2020s.<br>

![The early 1980s was an interesting period on the Aberdeen - Inverness line. The Swindon DMUs had been replaced with refurbished Mark 1 stock, usually hauled by the likes of 27006 (or 27008?) as in this view. Behind the trees can be seen the remains of Inverurie Loco Works (now a Tesco). Kittybrewster [1st], on the line down to Waterloo, was close to the camera and Kittybrewster [2nd], on the Denburn Valley line, was beyond on the main line. Before these, the first station here was a terminus called Aberdeen Kittybrewster.<br>

David Spaven comments 'there was a major domestic coal terminal here, served by hopper wagons. I was the Speedlink Coal manager responsible for shifting the coal handling activity down to Guild Street, immediately adjacent to the Russell (ex Freightliner) intermodal terminal, with coal arriving from Yorkshire and South Wales by container. The Baker Atlas for 1988 shows Ellis & McHardy Coal Depot, Lime and LPG Terminals.'<br>

The southern portion of this line remained in use until 1966 for freight to Aultmore Distillery whereas the rest of the line had a very chequered past. ![The crowds had been gathering on both platforms for over 30 minutes at Dyce in the afternoon of 19 October 2012. On the right the Inverurie to Edinburgh service is getting ready to depart, while on the left an Aberdeen to Inverness service is boarding. Off to the right were the former Buchan line platforms, now filled in and used as a car park. To the left of the station is Dyce Airport reached via a connecting bus service.<br>
