![Close up of the narrow gauge rails that were possibly laid as a maintenane track and, long disused, are normally under the water in Grizedale reservoir but have been <I>on show</I> through the summer droughts. There are no quarries nearby and it may be that they were used to transport dam construction materials up the Grizedale valley around 1866. ![Grizedale is one of four linked reservoirs in the hills above Garstang that supply Blackpool's water. Recent droughts have exposed this curious set of narrow gauge rails that seemed to have been used as a crude slipway from a long demolished boathouse and disappear deep under the water. Were these rails used in the original building of the reservoir and its dam in 1866 and then reused here?
