![The line from Dunblane to Callander closed entirely on 1st November 1965, save for a stub to serve Springbank mill being retained at the Dunblane end. The stub was cut back further when the mill closed in the 1970s, leaving only a very short section of the original branch. However, this has not prevented the odd passenger train from making an attempt to reach Doune and Callander. ![A crossing was established at Drumvaich in 1893 as traffic on the Callander and Oban Railway grew. This view looks west from the east end of the loop with the combined signal box and house in the distance. ![<I>It’s coming! It’s in the trees!</I> The red-eyed demonic presence hiding in the bushes is actually a DMU (156 433) which has gone “on safari” up the last remaining section of the Dunblane, Doune and Callander railway at Dunblane in October 1998. Presumably, the unit had been misbehaving and this overgrown and rarely used spur was the only place it could be shunted out of the way.
