![East Anstey was the first station in Devon on the Taunton to Barnstaple branch. We stayed there in this camping coach in August 1952. There was still a pickup freight running at the time that shunted the goods yard a few times during the week. I'm sure of the dates because I just remember a violent storm on the Friday night - the same one that washed out Lynmouth on the other side of Exmoor. <br><br>[John Thorn /08/1952]](/images/38000/38559.jpg "East Anstey")

![The largest intermediate station on the Norton Fitzwarren to Barnstaple line, and terminus for services along the Exe Valley line until 1963, Dulverton station is pictured 10 years after final closure in 1966. ![A peculiar queue of abandoned caravans and cars stretches along the track bed of the former Taunton-Barnstaple line at Bishops Nympton and Molland station on 11th September 1976. It was as if holiday motorists had tried to use the disused railway as an alternative to the congested roads and come to grief. Substantial holiday traffic had indeed come this way in the past, but on rails until the line closed in 1966. ![The former broad gauge goods shed at Barnstaple Victoria Road station (Western terminus of the Devon and Somerset Railway) is now assured of a good future, as it has been sympathetically restored as a church building.
