Dalmellington Iron Company (Phase 2)

Introduction

This covers the second phase of the company. The Drumgrange Incline was rebuilt, plateau lines rebuilt and greatly extended to serve the iron mines of the plateau north of Waterside and Dalmellington.

Second Drumgrange Incline

This was a self acting incline - loaded trains going down the incline balanced empty wagons coming up the incline. It partly followed the course of the original incline, although better engineered. The incline linked the lower level Dalmellington Iron Works lines to the lines serving the iron ore mines on the plateau and the company's hill villages.

The plateau line ran from Kerse to the north west, south through Burnfoot, Drumgrange and east to Corbie Craigs. It was a minerals line serving iron ore mines.
