Croy: A £3.5m programme to improve the resilience of the railway between Croy and Dullatur in extreme weather has been delivered successfully. Over the last 12 months, Network Rail and QTS have carried out work to improve drainage and prevent landslips on the Edinburgh – Glasgow main line (on behalf of Scotland’s Railway).

Fylde Junction: New Avanti hybrid 805004 slowly negotiates the Fylde Junction points as it approaches a red signal protecting the platform road at Preston on 11th March 2024. This was a return test run from Lancaster to London, which had been running almost daily for several weeks

Maynooth: Maynooth. GNR(I) 4-4-0 No.131 waits at the head of her train, the morning RPSI Midlander excursion, to return tender first to Dublin Connolly. It was great to see how popular the excursion. A further excursion was run in the afternoon, also a sell-out. Unable to get a seat on either train we took the preceding service train out to Maynooth and the preceding service train - about to arrive - back to Dublin Connolly. Really great to see this elegant Neilson Reid 1901 Glasgow built loco in action. She looked very sprightly for her 123 years! 24 March 2024.

Muircockhall Colliery: A view looking south west showing the cutting where the line to Muircockhall came off the West of Fife Mineral Railway. The route through to Kelty was cut back to here in the 1950s after the last of Kingseat Colliery, Kingseat (Dean) Colliery, closed in 1945. The Muircockhall branch closed in 1962. It was about 3/4 of a mile long and turned through nearly 180 degrees on approach to the colliery. The colliery had closed in 1944 but survived as a mining training school until 1969.
