Query A cosy scene inside the Guards van on the way back from Kelso with the last freight on 26 March 1968. The Guard was Ian Fergusson, but who is the lad on the right of the picture? He joined us at St Boswells and, like us, had a pass for the freight, although ours were from Galashiels where the trip had started. He wasnt local, and the name Craig seems to float around. |

Comments so far A rummage throught the Web suggests this might be the Manchester Rail Travel Society / Severn Valley Railway Society "North West Tour" of 20th April 1968. No idea of the location, but 48773 was reportedly used on the Bolton-to-Stockport leg, so that should narrow it down a bit. Alasdair Taylor Yes, an 8F with a WCML sheplate - single number on top line - but can anyone explain the ^wrong^ tender, which is not a Fowler (ex Jubilee, or a standard Stanier tender with sloped in tops to the side sheets - looks more like a Hawksworth tender off a County or later Castle!
