Closed to passengers in October 1970 the line remained open to goods traffic (grain to ABM) until the end of 1980. ![All part of the job. The signalman struggles with the crossing gates against the wind off the North Sea at Little Steeping on the East Lincolnshire line in February 1988. ![The famous Firsby Curve, built by the GNR in 1881, linked the East Lincolnshire Railway to the Wainfleet and Firsby and allowed through running of trains from the East Midlands to Skegness. The other East Lincolnshire lines, and Firsby station, closed in 1970 and have been swept away in the flat farming landscape leaving just the long branch from Boston to Skegness with that sharp curve that is such a feature of railway maps. 156402 slowly negotiates the curve as it heads for Boston and beyond. <br><br>[Mark Bartlett 09/04/1994]](/images/21000/21678.jpg "Firsby")
![In a very rural Lincolnshire location, Ludborough closed to passengers in 1961 although passenger services from Louth continued to pass through until 1970 and goods trains a further ten years after that. The station has now become the base of the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway and trains run a short distance either side of the level crossing seen here in May 2012.<br><br>[Mark Bartlett 21/05/2012]](/images/39000/39128.jpg "Ludborough")

![There may be rails in the road, gates across the tracks and a road sign warning of the level crossing, but no trains have passed here in over 30 years. Looking north at Fotherby Halt, Lincs, on 10 October 2013, the station was behind the camera, while the signal box, which stood off picture to the right, was moved to Chappel and Wakes Colne [see image 44971].
