Rail passengers will be able to watch the Highland scenery go by from armchairs when an historic observation car returns to Scotland next month for the first time for 55 years, Scotland on Sunday has learned.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has launched a special commemorative video to mark the centenary of the iconic East Coast route operator. On 1st January 2023, LNER will celebrate 100 years since the grouping following the Railway Act of 1921. New Years Day will mark the start of a year full of celebrations for LNER who will spend the year recognising the achievements of the past as well as the potential for the future. [London North Eastern Railway has been the franchise holder for Intercity East Coast since 2018. The London and North Eastern Railway company existed between 1923 and 1948. The route itself is over 170 years old. -RS]
