Start of work on line from Seaham [1st] to Hendon Dock, Sunderland. To be built as Seaham Harbour at capacity.
17/01/1854Londonderry Railway
Hetton coal train runs from Seaham [1st] to Sunderland Dock via new line as far as Ryhope and Durham and Sunderland Railway to Hendon Dock. The connection at Ryhope was temporary for the ceremonial occasion.
03/08/1854Londonderry Railway
Line opened throughout. From Ryhope to Hendon Dock the line ran parallel to the Durham and Sunderland Railway.
