Location type

Name and dates

Grangemouth No 5 Signal Box (East Cut) (1908-1978)

Opened on the Grangemouth Harbour Railways (Caledonian Railway).

Description

This box was associated with the single track swing bridge over the East Cut, between Grange Dock (west) and Eastern Channel (east). Its purpose was to signal the bridge was in position, it was not a block post.

The bridge carried a line from Grangemouth No 3 Signal Box which skirted around the marshalling yards and coal hoist sidings to reach the east end of the Grange Dock. It crossed the East Cut to connect with sidings on the north/west side of the Eastern Channel which could also be reached from Grangemouth No 4 Signal Box (West Cut).

The box closed in 1978.

Grangemouth No 4 Signal Box (West Cut) fulfilled a similar purpose at the east end of the Grange Dock.
