Gloy Viaduct

Location type

Bridge

Name and dates

Gloy Viaduct (1904-1948)

Opened on the Invergarry and Fort Augustus Railway.

Description

This viaduct crossed the River Gloy between Invergloy Platform and Gairlochy. To the south the railway ran on a shelf between the road north, to the west, and river.

The viaduct was demolished after closure. Piers remain here.

In 1899, five years before opening, a director's coach ran here from Spean Bridge to review progress. At that time the bridge was not ready.
