Dumbuck Signal Box

Location type

Name and dates

Dumbuck Signal Box (1896-1960)

Opened on the Caledonian and Dumbartonshire Junction Railway.

Description

This signal box was on the south side of the line just east of the Glasgow Road overbridge and west of the Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway overbridge.

This split the long section between Dumbarton East Junction and Bowling.

It later came to serve the siding to Dumbuck Goods. The siding was on the north side of the line and approached via a reversing spur from the eastbound line.

The box closed in 1960 during the works to prepare for electrification. The route between Dumbarton East Junction and the box closed, replaced by the former Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway and a new connection at Dunglass Junction [East]. The line east of Dumbuck was retained as sidings for the Bowling Oil Terminal. Since closure of the terminal these sidings have been lifted.

In 1892 the North British Railway received assent for a passenger and goods station at Dumbuck, but did not proceed.
