Name and dates

Calderbank Colliery Signal Box (1917-1935)

Opened on the Rutherglen and Coatbridge Branch (Caledonian Railway).

Description

This signal box was on the north side of the line opposite the junction for the Calderbank Colliery Pit No 1. The branch was accessed from the east and ran south through Calderbank Colliery Tunnel.

As the colliery site was cramped, located on the west bank of the North Calder Water, its locomotive shed and exchange sidings were located at the junction.

The junction was located just west of the former Baillieston [1st] station, east of today's Baillieston station. The box closed in 1935.

Houses have been built over the exchange sidings site.
