Opened on the Waterside Junction to Bridgend Junction (North British Railway).

Description

The line from Garnqueen divided into three here. Going to the north west, the original M&K route, two single track lines ran in parallel, giving the appearance of a double track line. The western track ran to Garngaber High Junction, the eastern to Woodley Junction. A newer route to Waterside Junction ran to the north. This later route was a conventional double track.

The junction opened in 1895 along with a signal box. This was located in the 'V' of the junction aligned with the original M&M route.

This new line had opened for the coal traffic travelling from Baird's mines at Gartshore and nearby (Bairds of Gartshore's Railway) to the Gartsherrie Iron Works.

The junction replaced Garngaber Low Junction.

To the south was access to the exchange sidings for Auchengeich Colliery (1908-1965, then retained). This colliery was on the north/east side of the line and accessed from the north west.

The route to Woodley Junction closed in March 1959. That to Waterside Junction closed in November 1959. The box remained opened for the remaining route to Garngaber High Junction. The box closed in 1963 after which the line was worked as a siding. Finally the line closed in 1966.

The old M&K formation is now a footpath. The junction location can still be seen.
