Airdrie Engine Works (1864-1890)

Description

This was the engine works of Dick & Stevenson, Alexander Dick, John Dick and Graham Stevenson. The company started around the 1790s and started locomotive manufacture in 1864. Locomotives manufactured were generally works, colliery or dock locomotives, the first locomotives being for the Langloan Iron Co, Langloan Iron Works. The engine works was not rail served. It was north of Airdrie and west of Airdrie Hallcraig Street.

This works stopped making locomotives around 1890, its designs being taken over by the Chapelside Boiler Works. The site is housing.
