Aberdeen Iron Works (1845-1893)

Description

This works was located in the north of Aberdeen Harbour. The former works building, in York Place, still stands. It was the works of William Simpson & Co.

1847 The works produced locomotive no 1 for the Aberdeen Railway. Around six 0-4-2s were manufactured for the company.

1849 Works closed?

1851 Two locomotives for the Stirling and Dunfermline Railway.

1864 Works taken over by Hall, Russell & Co.

1868 Works builds its first ship - the Kwang Tung is built for the Imperial Chinese Navy.
