Lowland Locomotives This site is definitely worth a visit. Especially for he in-depth description of the various railways in the Monklands.
Quoted from the site;
"Initially this site was going to be purely a gallery of my photographs to show the variety of locomotives to be found in Central Scotland, an area often overlooked by railway enthusiasts in favour of the scenic splendour of the Highlands.  However during the composition of the site, I became seriously immersed in background research for the Monkland page (now pages) to such an extent that this has become a short history of the railways in this area."
Highland Rail Developments From the website home page;

Highland Rail Developments aims to :

  1. Transfer 10,000 lorry loads of freight per year from road to rail  within five years
  2. Improve the speed, frequency and comfort of rail passenger services
  3. Generate 1 million per year of new heritage rail business

Great North of Scotland Railway Association "The Association was formed in 1964 to bring together all those interested in the railway throughout its history. The founders of the Association realised the need for a dedicated body devoted to the study of a specific railway when few such societies existed. After over 35 years, much has been learned but, as new sources of information have appeared, new avenues of research have opened up. " (From the website).
Scotrail mailing group

"This list is for anyone interested in railways in Scotland. Anything to do with railways is fine: questions, information, etc. Please note that this list has nothing to do with the train operating company with a similar name. " (From the website).

I recommend joining the list for both up to date news and general information about Scotland's railways.
