Kinross Junction: This view looks north towards Kinross Junction from a removed bridge which crossed the Devon Valley Railway, reduced to a muddy footpath. The main line was off to the far right where an embankment can be seen. After closure there was some earth movement related to the building of the M90 (out of shot to the left). This location is now obliterated by subsequent house building.

Bonnington South Junction: From old maps this looks to have been the site of Bonnington South Junction but the underbridge is not shown. Nowadays it is part of the Water of Leith Walkway. Note the sustainable materials used to form earth-retaining structures at the base of the embankments allowing the path to snake down and under the bridge. The track is still there but it is closed off by heavy steel fencing. Many moons ago, whilst working on secondment to Network Rail, I had to submit an objection to the Water of Leith Flood plans relating to this line, the Powderhall Branch.

Canterbury East: The elevated but now disused signal box at Canterbury East during a second photo stop by the Railway Touring Company's 'The Armistice Kentish Belle' railtour, behind 1934 LMS Jubilee no. 45596 'Bahamas,' which is letting off steam on the right, looking towards Dover Priory at 14.22 on Saturday, 11th November 2023. The signal box closed on 28th December 2011 with control of the signalling passing to the East Kent Signalling Centre at Gillingham.

Whifflet East Junction: As a result of the flooding which closed the line through Glasgow Central LL between 12/94 and 09/95 services from Lanark were diverted via Queen Street LL which was reached by using the line from Whifflet to Sunnyside Junction. In 1995 314201 with a Lanark - Dalmuir working has joined the former NB line with the current Whifflet station on the right of the shot.

Aboyne: The tenants may change (See image [[5836]] from 2006) but the impressive former station building at Aboyne is otherwise unchanged in 2023. The trackbed has been levelled allowing this road to pass through across the old platforms to a car park.

Kinross Junction [1st]: The approach of the Devon Valley Railway to the junction at Kinross has been obliterated near the motorway. The main line through Kinross has been largely obliterated too. The Devon Valley, running on a curve from west to north, ran along the right hand side of the fence in the middle of the view, before crossing the South Queich (parts of the parapets remain), and then beyond today's motorway to a junction on the left.

At the time of the photograph the solitary weekday commuter service to Newcastle left here at 0708, returning at 1825. (See image [[5268]]).
