Lancefield Quay: The Finnieston foot passenger ferry operated from Lancefield Quay to Finnieston when I came upon it in the early 1970s and this is no. 10 heading off on its short crossing of the River Clyde. The vessel was built in 1934 by Barclay Curle Ltd and from what I have read the service operated until 1977.
Paisley Gilmour Street: A steam/diesel combination of Clayton D8530 and Fairburn 2-6-4 tank No 42060 head off from Paisley Gilmour Street in the Gourock direction on 14 September 1963. Claytons were used on passenger trains in the summer - even double-headed - but 'hybrids' were definitely unusual.
Ashburys: Very poor light at Ashburys in December 1984, not long before the end of the 1500V DC Glossop Hadfield units.
Balado: Looking west to the site of Balado station showing the very rural area the line ran through.
Buxted: DEMU 1317 calls at Buxted in 1972. In 2004, as 207017, this unit was one of the last three of its class to be withdrawn and is now preserved on the Spa Valley Railway.
Cranley Gardens: The west side parapet of Muswell Hill Road bridge over the trackbed of the old GNR Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace line, with the railings marking the site of the entrance building to the former Cranley Gardens station, on the afternoon of Saturday, 4th November 2023. The line closed in the 1950s after almost becoming part of the LU Northern Line. Cranley Gardens station, entirely of wood, fell into an advanced state of dereliction very quickly but the ruins (that I remember as a boy) remained until the early 1970s when they were demolished with a block of flats built on the site and only recently demolished. The site of the former northbound platform is in the background behind the railings on the left.
Edinburgh Princes Street: By March 1969 Princes Street station was a sad sight as it awaited demolition. To the right of the shot is Lothian Road Goods station, the site of the original CR station before Princes Street was opened. The goods station closed on 3rd August 1964 with passenger services at Princes Street ceasing as from 6th September 1965.
York [1st]: A lot of building work has taken place inside the York city walls on the old railway land but the resemblance of the first station is still in situ on the old site. This view from the walkway on the wall in October 2023. See image [[42802]] from ten years earlier.
Paisley Gilmour Street: Paisley Gilmour Street looked in need of some brightening up on 3 September 1966 as Class 47 No D1623 arrived with a train from Stranraer.
Balado: The loading bank survives at the former Balado station. The view looks east to Kinross.
Hoo Junction: 33008 at Hoo Junction, with contaminated spoil from Chatham Docks, in 1993. This was a busy location in those days with lots of freight traffic. 33008 was painted green and thus easy to recognise at this time.
