St George^s Railway and Harbour

Swansea and Neath Railway


View over Neath & Brecon junction in August 2012 from a passing train on the South Wales main line. The former N & B line to Onllwyn Washery runs straight ahead with the remaining western section of the former Vale of Neath line to Cwmgrach branching off to the right. [David Pesterfield]

Swansea District Lines (Great Western Railway)


Newport to Fishguard Harbour train taking the Swansea avoiding lines. The viaduct is over the A4067 and Clydach Road. Taff Bargoed Joint Line (Great Western Railway and Rhymney Railway)


Coal train awaits departure from Cwm Bargoed. The line runs south through a (today) surprisingly rural valley until Bedlinog. The Cwm Bargoed loading pad is the only use of the line the whole way from Ystrad Mynach. View looks west. [Ewan Crawford]

Turning left from the view of the signal box [see image 33437], the platform wall on the right seems to be all that remains of Penar Junction Halt on the Pontypool to Neath line in May 2010. The trackbed is well kept some 50 years after closure. This must be ... [Ken Strachan]
