Smardale Viaduct

The southernmost span of Smardale Viaduct on the S&C, which crosses over what was once the Kirkby Stephen (East) to Tebay section of the Stainmore line, about a quarter mile west of the former Smardale station. Presumably the vegetation growing out of the masonry joints demonstrates Network Rail's commitment to biodiversity. 25th May 2017. [Ref query 1157]
