Grafton East Junction

Prototype 4 car DEMU 210-001 westbound at Crofton pumping station on the Berks and Hants line on 10th November 1982. Similarities to EMUs produced in the same era can be seen in the design but the above floor MTU 1140hp engine and equipment took up half the length of the (63 tonne) power car. A second (3 car) train 210-002 had a Paxman engine. Eventually the trains were deemed too expensive and did not proceed to production. After running on the Western Region for several years the sets were disbanded although some trailer cars were reused in EMUs. See image 32734
