Manchester Exchange

Wires getting nearer to Manchester Victoria in December 2014 as 156491 departs west past the site of Manchester Exchange, closed in 1969 and now being redeveloped. On the left is a small remaining section of Platform 3, which linked Victoria and Exchange from 1924 until closure. At 2194' in length it was Britain's longest platform. See image 31084 taken from Platform 3 inside Exchange station in 1969. Postscript: Once the electrification was completed the parapets on the footbridge were raised and another handy railway vantage point was effectively removed.
