St Jean d'Angely

Ligne Niort - Saintes/CFD Reseau Charente. Ligne Marans - St Jean d'Angely - Cognac. St Jean d'Angely station looking in the direction of Saintes. The CFD line ran on the left of the platform on which the photographer is standing and continued on to Cognac. Prior to nationalisation in 1938, the Paris - Bordeaux route was virtually the only one in France where there were competing routes with separate PO and Etat lines. St Jean d'Angely was on the former Etat route which ran via Niort and Saintes. The former PO route is now the main line (pending the completion of the TGV line from Tours to Bordeaux which is currently under construction). The St Jean d'Angely line is now sees very little traffic and has been singled.
