Midlothian

Scottish Borders is the most obvious mainland Scottish council area
without a railway station but there is one other: Midlothian.  Things were very different in the past when there was quite a decent network as can be seen on this extract from the 1957 OS One Inch map.  Apart from the Waverley Route (extreme right) there is the line to Peebles. Already closed to passengers are the branches to Glencorse (going through Loanhead), Polton and Penicuik.  The Penicuik line is the one through Auchendinny.
