Monklands

Railways aplenty in this extract of an OS Popular Edition map of 1923 showing the Monklands area.  Much of the mileage is still there
today, and there are not that many fewer stations  At the time of this map Coatbridge had, rather confusingly, two Central stations: it is the former Caledonian one on the left which survives.  To the south there were also two overlapping Whifflets.  Among other stations to note is the closed Bargeddie.  Decades later Bargeddie was to find a new home on the reopened Whifflet line, running parallel to the south.  Crown copyright 1923.
