Acocks Green and South Yardley

A bit of a squeeze: condensed Gill Sans lettering is used to fit in the name on this Western Region brown and cream totem. This was the longest name squeezed into one line; many shorter ones used two, though this made the lettering on one or both lines smaller. By today's standards they would be pretty hard to read even with good eyesight. Think what they were like at night, illuminated only by a gas lamp.
