Pencaitland

The Gifford branch closed to passengers in 1933 and its own branch to Macmerry closed in 1925, but they were both still open for goods in 1957, the date of this OS One Inch map.  The Gifford line had however been cut back to Humbie (the closed station at Gilchriston, bottom right) after the 1948 floods wasted a bridge.  Saltoun station see image 19487 also served Glenkinchie distillery, still open and the only malt whisky distillery in south-east Scotland.  On the Macmerry branch there was a station at Winton, north of where the line crosses the B road.  Crown copyright 1957.
