Western Scotland
A step back 32 years with an extract from the BR Network Map for 1978 showing lines to the west of Glasgow. The obvious bygone is the Kilmacolm branch, closed in January 1983. The 1980s are not a period noted for closures (quite the reverse) so it's surprising that the Balloch Pier extension see image 16428 was also to go, in 1986. The Paisley Canal loop closed with the Kilmacolm branch but substantially came back a few years later. Note no Argyle line yet, no proper service on the Burns Line (as it was to become) and several of today's stations yet to open.
