Bedford

It's easy to dwell on the losses at Bedford - not least the direct trains to Cambridge and Northampton. But this view is full of history. Notice the MR warehouse dead centre - the sidings in front of it used to be the Hitchin line - a main line to London, no less. In the distance above the wagons, we can see where this line has been 'recycled' as the link between Bedford's two stations - Midland and the 'new' St John's. On the right, the catenary supports are over the carriage sidings for the Bed-Pan EMUs. See image 21393
