Carstairs

Looking along the platform at Carstairs towards Carlisle in August
1997.  The odd-looking post in the foreground once held an early,
monochrome departures monitor.  The screens were removed when the line from Edinburgh was electrified in 1991.  With diesel-hauled trains no longer needing to call here to link up to an
electric for the journey south (and vice-versa) the number of services calling here was greatly reduced.  Even now (2010) electronic information is not deemed necessary here.
