Preston Total Bitumen

An operational railfreight terminal. This is the bitumen unloading siding at Preston Dock, viewed from a passing Ribble Steam Railway train. Out of use for many years the facilities were refurbished with a government grant and now receive three large tanker trains a week from the Lindsey Oil Refinery near Immingham, hauled from the exchange sidings by the RSR's own diesel locomotives. The tanks in the picture will have arrived on Friday's train for unloading in this siding and then be tripped back to the exchange sidings for collection by the Monday working.
