Recent reopening of the sub platforms for through running, following a period of truncation at the west end, must have been like an early Christmas present to those responsible for maintaining traffic flow through the station. View east from Waverley Bridge on 14 December 2007 shows the 0722 FTPE arrival from Manchester Airport standing at platform 8 alongside the NXEC 0755 Inverness - Kings Cross Highland Chieftain which has just pulled into platform 9.
