On 4 January 1969 the Border Railway Scociety arranged for a final day ^Farewell to the Waverley^ headboard to be carried by a number of passenger services between Carlisle and Edinburgh. The headboard is seen here attached to D5311 approaching Cowbraehill bridge south of Tynehead on the climb to Falahill Summit with the 3pm Edinburgh - Carlisle train on that day.

View south from the bridge over the trackbed at Tynehead in August 2002 showing the steep climb away from the platforms immediately below the bridge. The former station building and goods yard are on the left with the trackbed of the spur running north off the main line to reach the yard visible in the background.
