A reluctant trainspotter watches a Kyle-Inverness train drift east down the bank through Achterneed (closed 1965) heading for Dingwall in 1988.

A brief respite for this Kyle train behind 5333 in the 1970s. The train is on the short stretch of 1 in 350 gradient through Achterneed, before resuming the battle up the otherwise continuous 1 in 50 from Fodderty Junction to the 458^ Ravens Rock summit. A classic climb for ^head-out-of-the-window / right-behind-the-loco^ viewing, before sprinterisation took the fun away!
