RAILSCOT | Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway

Introduction

This line is closed. It opened from Waterford South, a terminus on the west side of Waterford, to Lismore. It became part of a through route from Rosslare to Waterford and Cork when bought and incorporated into the Fishguard and Rosslare Railways and Harbours [Ireland].

The former line is now the Waterford Greenway.

01/03/1893	Fermoy and Lismore Railway Operation taken over by the Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway from the Great Southern and Western Railway.

01/11/1898	Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway Great Southern and Western Railway takes over train operation.
/05/1899	Mallow to Fermoy (Great Southern and Western Railway) Fermoy and Lismore Railway Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway Through services between Cork and Waterford begin.
30/08/1906	Mallow to Fermoy (Great Southern and Western Railway) Fermoy and Lismore Railway Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway Through services between Cork and Rosslare Pier begin. In addition to the new lines opening a new Rosslare Pier station opens.

/ /1909	Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway Re-alignment north east of Carroll's Cross.
08/08/1922	Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway Ballyvoile Viaduct destroyed.
01/07/1924	Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway Re-opens with rebuilding of Ballyvoile Viaduct.
27/03/1967	Mallow to Fermoy (Great Southern and Western Railway) Fermoy and Lismore Railway Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway Waterford (excluded) to Mallow (excluded) via Lismore closed. Trains diverted via Limerick Junction.
/ /1970	Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway Re-opened to just east of Dungarvan for a 1.5 miles branch to Ballinacourty mineral works.
/ /1982	Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway Re-closed as mineral works closes.
/ /1993	Waterford, Dungarvan and Lismore Railway Rump converted into siding.
