North Devon and Cornwall Junction Light Railway

Introduction

This line extended the Torrington branch to Halwill. The northern portion of the line was a Standard Gauge conversion of the Torrington and Marland Light Railway. It opened in 1925 and closed to through traffic in 1965, remaining open to minerals (and occasional tour trains) between Torrington and Meeth Clay Works. It closed completely in 1982.

Opened from Torrington (Torrington Extension (London and South Western Railway)) to Halwill Junction (Holsworthy Branch (London and South Western Railway)). Much of the Torrington and Marland Light Railway was used, having been converted into a standard gauge railway. Stations opened at Dunsbear Halt, Petrockstow, Meeth Halt, Hatherleigh, Hole. The Marland Clay Works lines remained 3ft and in use.
