This pit was located to the north of the older Easthouses Pit. Confusingly, it is often referred to as Easthouses Pit. The pit was developed by the Lothian Coal Company and was part of the Newbattle collieries unit.

This coal mine was opened by the Marquis of Lothian. After the opening of the Edinburgh and Hawick Railway (North British Railway) it was served by a tramway, which made a south facing connection to the north of the Brewer^s Bush bridge.
