Act passed for line between Durham and Waterhouses. Line connected at western end with colliery line to East Hedleyhope and tortuous line to Crook via the Stanley Inclines of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

Ushaw Moor station opened. There were wooden viaducts, never replaced with metal, nearby.
