Banton Tramway

Introduction

This was one of many tramways connecting a colliery to the Forth and Clyde Canal. This one dates from around 1813. This tramway connected the Banton Colliery and Banton Brick Works to Kelvinhead Jetty on the Forth and Clyde Canal, to its south. From 1888 a siding on the Kilsyth and Bonnybridge Railway served the Banton Brick Works. The southern portion probably fell out of use. The route of the tramway is shown on the 1898 OS map.
