This line runs through farmland between Ratho and Dalmeny. There was a naval depot north at Royal Elizabeth Yard, north of Kirkliston, which is now an industrial estate. The depot was rail served.
This line ran from Ratho to South Queensferry.
Ratho Junction
This is an east facing junction where the line leaves the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway main line.
There were two station at Ratho, one on the main line and one on the South Queensferry line. Little remains of the former low level station alothough there are some loading banks for freight.
Kirkliston station had a single platform and passing loop. The site of the station is now a housing estate. To the south of the station was a goods yard which served a nearby distillery. Loading banks remain here.
The south Queensferry line was the original alignment here.
To the south of the Dalmeny Junctions there was a south facing connection to the Royal Elizabeth Yard.
The line, coming from the south, was met at a north facing junction by the Forth Bridge Connecting Lines from Saughton. Slightly further north at a south facing junction the Forth Bridge Railway met the line. This line ran a little further north to be met at another north facing junction by the by the Forth Bridge Connecting Lines from Winchburgh. The South Queensferry Branch was to run to the east of this last junction and drop down under the Forth Bridge to approach South Queensferry.
Little remains of this former station. The cutting has been altered by conversion into a footpath.
Little remains of this former station.
This was the original terminus of the line by the harbour at South Queensferry. The terminus was left on a very short branch when the line was extended further west.
The line was extended further west to Port Edgar and an intermediary station built here. Very little remains as the ground levels have been altered. A large depot was established nearby during the construction of the Forth Bridge. Some parts of this depot can be found in the undergrowth.
This was the terminus of the line. Although nothing remains of a station here rails are still embedded into the cobbles here.
