Leven and East of Fife Railway

This line is closed. It was formed by a merger of the Leven Railway and the East of Fife Railway. The combined line was extended east from Kilconquhar to Anstruther.

The line runs along the south of the Fife coastline. The line served a number of fishing villages.

Chronology

It was formed by a merger of the Leven Railway and the East of Fife Railway. The combined line was extended east from Kilconquhar to Anstruther.

Description of route

From Thornton to Anstruther. The stations on the Kilconquhar to Anstruther extension were;

Kilconquhar

This station had a long single platform. The line from here to Anstruther was an extension of the original East of Fife Railway.

Elie

This was a two platform station. The site is now a housing estate.

St Monans

This single platform station is now a house.

Pittenweem

This single platform station is now a house.

Anstruther (Old)

Top

Part of a platform remains at this station. This was the original eastern terminus before the line was extended east. The station was on the west bank of a river, the line was extended over the river on a bridge by the Anstruther and St Andrews Railway to a new Anstruther station and the old station became a goods yard.
