Keith and Dufftown Railway

This railway is now a preserved line. The railway provided a service between Dufftown and Keith. At Keith the line connected with the Great North of Scotland Railway (which was also joined by the Highland Railway at Keith). At Dufftown the line was joined by the Strathspey Railway (which was joined by the Morayshire Railway at Craigellachie).

Local area

This line runs through small villages and forests and by small lochs to Dufftown, where the Glenfiddich distillery is located.

Description of route

From Dufftown to Keith. The line is single track although there was a passing place at Drummuir.

Dufftown

Top

The Strathspey Railway had an end-on junction here and ran on to Boat of Garten. This was a two platform station with a passing loop. The yard had substancial sidings for grain for the nearby distilleries. The site is now the base for the Keith and Dufftown Railway Association.

Mortlach branch 

The Mortlach branch branched off at Parkmore near Dufftown and had sidings at Glendullan and Mortlach.

The train shown here was the last excursion to Dufftown. The location is further west than the Curler's Platform.
