This line runs along the north bank of the Firth of Forth. It passes through the town of Dalgety Bay which acts as a suburb for Edinburgh and Dunfermline. The town was a popular holiday destination in Victorian days. At Burntisland there are a number of docks which were formerly used to export coal from the Fife coalfield.
