Edinburgh does not presently have an airport station despite being in fairly close proximity to a number of lines.

A station will be opened on a new line to be built from an east facing junction at Turnhouse to a triangular junction near Kirkliston. The line will be able to be used as an alternative route to the main Edinburgh and Glasgow route which passes through Ratho and Winchburgh Tunnel.
It is proposed that the station will be served by trains running from Edinburgh to Glasgow and from Edinburgh to Fife.
