This railway is closed. The railway provided a service from Lossiemouth to Elgin and from Elgin to Craigellachie where connection was made with the Strathspey Railway. A connection existed between Rothes and Orton on the Highland Railway. At Lossie Junction the Morayshire Railway was joined by the Moray Coast Railway (GNSR). |

From Lossiemouth to Elgin and from Elgin to Craigellachie.
This was the terminus of the line. The station consisted of a single platform. The site is now occupied by a carpark and building, much of the platform still exists despite landscaping.
The embankment of the railway has been removed at this point.
This station is inaccessable by road.
The disused works remain. This view looks towards the line (which is now on private property). The line runs from the left to the right.
This halt is now difficult to find, although the line formation is clearly visible.
The photograph looks towards Buckie.
Lossie junction was where the GNSR's Moray Coast Line joined the Morayshire Railway. The location is very close to that of the closed Linksfield halt. The junction formation can still be observed although some sampling have recently been planted at this location so the view may disappear shortly.
At this point the line from Craigellachie and the line from Lossiemouth joined and ran as double track to the Elgin terminus.
This station still stands but is no longer a station; it is in use as office premises and a screen has been placed between the platforms and the remaining trackwork in the goods yard. The photograph shows the goods yard with the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway line in the foreground and the GNSR goods yard and line running away from the camera in the background. The GNSR station is to the left of the camera and the Highland station is behind the camera; the up platform of the Highland station continued as a through platform in the GNSR station.. The junction between the two companies is also behind the camera.
This substancial branch connected the Benriach, Glen Lossie and Longmorn distilleries together. The line was used to move casks between the distilleries. It closed in 1979 many years after the Elgin to Rothes main line had closed.
This station still stands within the confines of a distillery.
This station closed at an early date and became a goods yard.
The route of the line here can be easily descerned. A nearby house remains standing as it did when the railway was open.
Sadly nothing remains of this unique station with staggered platforms and unusual architecture.
This was an intermediate station on the line from Orton to Rothes. See also the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway.
Most of this station was destroyed in a road re-alignment however some of the wall which retained the embankment of the line at the station remains supporting today's roadway.
At this location the Morayshire line was connected to the Strathspey Railway. There was a passing loop here. The junction faced Dufftown.
