This short branch served a large number of coal mines. The area today is largely farmed with small villages, but scarred by former coal mining.
From Smeaton to Macmerry.
This station had a large island platform. The signalbox was extended in the early 1900s. The site is now part of a cycle route. The station buildings have been demolished.
(Junction for the Gifford and Garvald
Railway) There were a considerable number of mines by and to the west of
the station.
