This is an area of farmed countryside.
The line ran from near Dumfries to Moniaive along the
Cairn Valley.
Cairn Valley Junction
The formation of this junction with the Glasgow
and South Western Railway mainline (originally the Glasgow,
Dumfries and Carlisle Railway) can barely be traced on the ground. From
Irongray on to Moniaive the formation is clearly visible however.
Irongray
The station platform mound remains along with the station house.
Newtonairds
This is named after a nearby house. The site is now very
overgrown, a single block of concrete can be found at the north end of the platform mound.
Stepford
The station house remains.
Dunscore
This station was in a deep cutting which is now very overgrown.
The station house remains nearby.
Crossford
The mound of the platform and the station house remain on either
side of a level crossing.
Kirland
This is nearby the village of Kirkland. The mound of the platform
remains along with the station house and goods loading bank.
Moniaive
The station building and large goods shed still stand.
