Description of route 

Top 

The line ran from near Dumfries to Moniaive along the Cairn Valley. 
 
Cairn Valley Junction

Top 

The formation of this junction with the Glasgow and South Western Railway mainline (originally the Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle Railway) can barely be traced on the ground. From Irongray on to Moniaive the formation is clearly visible however. 
 
Irongray

The station platform mound remains along with the station house.  
 
Newtonairds 

Top 

This is named after a nearby house. The site is now very overgrown, a single block of concrete can be found at the north end of the platform mound.  
 
Stepford

The station house remains. 
 
Dunscore 

Top 

This station was in a deep cutting which is now very overgrown. The station house remains nearby. 
 
Crossford 

Top 

The mound of the platform and the station house remain on either side of a level crossing. 
 
Kirland 

Top 

This is nearby the village of Kirkland. The mound of the platform remains along with the station house and goods loading bank. 
 
Moniaive 

Top 

The station building and large goods shed still stand.
